Questers: Adventures in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Math - STEAM


Welcome to Questers! We've gone digital!


As the library continues to adapt to the community needs, we are introducing Digital Questers. Digital Questers uses our online platform, the Questerverse, to introduce challenges and resources for Questers and Questers Jr. participants. A child or parent can create a free, secure account and participate digitally in our program. Visit carmel.lib.in.us/questers/questers.cfm to log in, learn more, or sign up. If you have questions, an Expedition Guide can be reached via email at questers@carmel.lib.in.us. Replies typically occur within 48 hours. To discover online activities, log in and click on the Digital Questers activities for ages 8-12, or the Digital Questers Jr. activities for ages 4-7. The Links section contains resources, activity ideas, book suggestions, and games to play.

WHAT ARE THE QUESTERS and QUESTERS JR PROGRAMS?

Questers and Questers Jr. are programs that offer a fun journey in self-guided adventures for children ages 4-12.
In Questers, children ages 8-12 complete activities in categories like Coding, Circuitry, Robotics, Logic, Words, Science, Video, and Music, with assistance from our Expedition Guides.
Questers Jr. is a program for children ages 4-7 to introduce, practice, and explore STEAM topics with a focus on literacy and cognitive growth.
Our vision is to develop a self-driven, on-demand STEAM program that encourages children ages 4-12 to explore, tinker, acquire skills, play, and experiment, while developing social-emotional and critical thinking skills.
The Questers concept and program is based on the Muncie Public Library's Digital Climbers program. Thank you to the Muncie Public Library for sharing their program framework with us!

WHO CAN BE A QUESTER?

The Questers program is for children ages 8-12 who can:
  1. read and comprehend directional text independently,
  2. Attempt to problem-solve and work through a challenge with limited/occasional help from our Expedition Guides.
  3. Respect our materials, respect others, and pick up before leaving or moving on to another challenge.

WHO CAN BE A QUESTER JR?

The Questers JR program is for children ages 4-7 who can:
  1. read and comprehend directional text with assistance from a caregiver,
  2. attempt to problem-solve and work through a challenge with assistance of a caregiver,
  3. sit and focus on an activity for at least 20 minutes with the assistance and guidance from a caregiver, and
  4. respect materials, respect others, and pick up before leaving or moving on to another challenge.





HOW DOES QUESTERS WORK:

Visit the Questerverse (carmel.lib.in.us/questers.cfm) to create your account and access challenges, links, games, and more! Choose from a variety of Digital Questers challenges you'll accomplish at your own pace with occasional help from us if you get stuck.
Once you have completed a Digital Challenge, Log the activity and the Expedition Guides will add it to your account within 48 hours, Monday through Friday. At this time, only Digital Challenges may be logged.
Complete certain activities in each of our categories, and you'll be ready to graduate to higher levels: :
  1. Hoosier,
  2. Tourist,
  3. Explorer, and
  4. World Traveler.
Complete challenges in each of the 9 categories to level up. As you level up, you’ll have access to cool new challenges created by staff at the Digital Media Lab. You’ll also get opportunities to create challenges for other Questers to try, and if you complete all the required activities in the levels raffle tickets for related fun games are given. Finish the program and receive a 3D printed trophy that you design.

HOW DOES QUESTERS JR WORK:

Visit the Questerverse (carmel.lib.in.us/questers.cfm) to create your account and access challenges, links, games, and more!
Choose from a variety of challenges you'll accomplish at your own pace with assistance and guidance from your caregiver.
Once you have completed a challenge, submit your activity virtually and the Expedition Guides will add it to your Questerverse account. Earn up to 4 digital Badges. A badge is earned when 15 activities are completed and logged digitally. The 4 badge levels are: :
  1. Robot,
  2. Artist,
  3. Braniac, and
  4. Adventurer.
Challenges/activities may be completed in any order and at any pace.

Our vision is to develop a self-driven, on-demand STEAM program that encourages children ages 4-12 to explore, tinker, acquire skills, play, and experiment, with the goal of developing critical thinking skills, resiliency, and a sense of accomplishment. You won't want to miss it!
